Restoring a '71 Firebird. Old compressor was bad. Had my mechanic order and install new system (compressor, receiver/dryer, muffler, hoses, etc.) After doing a lot of cosmetic and electrical work under dash, replaced fan switch, etc. Tried A/C but a/c clutch would not engage. Checked electrical all okay under dash. Checked under hood and found the pressure switch was open. When I pulled the electrical cable off the pressure switch, I noticed the switch was not screw on tightly, so all charge was lost. Took to different A/C mechanic this week and he was unable to get the high side (muffler) port to work with the R134a adapter. Whenever he put his gages on to pump down the schrader valve got bent. Finally had to cap the high port and just evacuate and charge through the low port. I don't know why the port on the muffler failed (it's been on the car for maybe a year, but only used A/C once after getting back from the original installer, he said he only pumped from the low side,
