- TECH NOTES:
- This Temperature Sending Unit converts engine temperature into electrical resistance, thereby producing a corresponding gauge reading. This variable resistance sending unit is used in vehicles having gauges (not warning lights/idiot lights).
- NOTE: Vehicles with warning lights should not use this sending unit. Those vehicles require a temperature sending unit "switch" that is either in an "on" or "off" state.
- Through the years, we have found that although auto parts stores and GM/Delco do sell replacement temperature sending units, quite often they do not produce an accurate gauge reading in vintage vehicles.
- Lectric Limited·s exclusive temperature sending units are NOT generic replacements. They have been manufactured in strict accordance to the original manufacturer·s blueprint specifications and tolerances.
- Lectric Limited has devoted months of research into temperature sending units in order to provide our customers with sending units that have the original-type terminal connection, original size housing and original specification inner components, and most importantly the correct thermistor (temperature variable resistor). This attention to detail results in an accurate gauge reading (assuming that your electrical system, grounds, and gauges are working properly, and that your gauges are original, or manufactured to the original specifications).
- Unless necessary to prevent leaking, we recommend that you do not use Teflon· tape, pipe compound, or any other sealant when installing this sending unit. Simply screw it in. Adding anything onto the sending unit's threads may result in improper operation.
- NOTE: This sending unit does not have any stamped markings. The terminal connections on all our sending units are exactly as-original. Through the years, the mating terminal & connector on your wiring harness may have been changed by a previous owner. This was not uncommon. This change was most likely made in order to try different sending units when the "exact replacement" unit didn't work or was not available. If your harness had been altered from original, we do offer replacement Temperature Sending Unit Lead Repair Kits to bring your wiring back to original.
